Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Initiative March 15 If you're interested in learning one of the traditional arts by serving as an assistant to a master of that craft, consider applying for this unique apprenticeship program. Toaster Film Festival November 10 The object of the Columbia Film Society's annual Toaster Film Festival is to get people to make short films and then put these films before an audience. South Carolina Fiction Project January 15 Open to legal residents of South Carolina who are at least 18 years of age, this annual writing competition, sponsored by The Post and Courier and the South Carolina Arts Commission, calls for previously unpublished short stories of 2,500 words or less. Up to 12 short stories will be selected for publication; each writer whose work is selected will receive $500 from The Post and Courier, which purchases first publication rights. Theatre Auditions
You don't have to be a current USC student to audition for plays in the Theatre Department - anyone is welcome. Auditions take place throughout the year; info on current and upcoming auditions can be found on the callboard in the Longstreet Theatre elevator. To learn more, click here.

Carolina has a wide range of student bands: the Marching Band, several concert bands, and several jazz bands. You don’t have to be a music major to join a band! For more information and an application, click here.
South Carolina Playwright's Festival
If you're a playwright living in South Carolina and have a play you'd like to have performed at USC, check out the South Carolina Playwright's Festival, hosted by the Theatre Department's independent student theatre group, Puppet Regime. Helen Hill Award for the Orphan Film Symposium
Honoring the legacy of filmmaker and Columbia, SC native Helen Hill, this award supports innovative independent filmmakers. This year's award will provide funds for the recipient to attend the 6th Orphan Film Symposium, March 26-29, 2008.
