Matt White's approach for "Lowcountry" has him headed to Spoleto
From a new program home to new music to continued research, Matt White, Jazz Studies Program chair, is rather busy. His novel approach to a 2023 release, “Lowcountry” — incorporating Gullah histories and stories with contemporary jazz — has earned White and his collaborators a chance to perform the piece during the 2024 Spoleto Festival.

Pioneering jazz drummer and USC music professor Colleen Clark will have two of her biggest supporters in the audience as she fills in as guest drummer on "Late Night With Seth Meyers."
Historic Collections, Remarkable Resources
To share the diverse heritage of South Carolina, the school’s Center for Southern African American Music preserves and records oral histories, music recordings, film and video footage of African American music in the South. The school also maintains a music library with a lending collection of books, scores, print journals, and audio and video recordings and offers students full access to numerous music-related databases.
