Biomedical Engineering

At the University of South Carolina I have gained academic, professional, and personal experiences of immeasurable value. The impacts of my four years at this university will last a lifetime.

Impactful experience:
Joining a biomedical engineering research lab and experimenting with potential therapeutics for Alzheimer’s disease has been one of the most impactful experiences from all my time at UofSC. Working in this lab taught me so much more than just how to perform lab techniques and conduct a research project, it also taught me how to think creatively and apply an integrative approach to problem solving. From this experience, I was able to learn from my faculty mentor, work alongside some amazing people, and grow my passion for biomedical research.

Enjoy most as a TS:
The Top Scholars program provided a unique community of students that served as a support system, a useful resource, and a platform on which I developed some of my closest friendships.

Story:
Joining Freshman Council immediately upon starting my first semester at UofSC would set off a series of events that would greatly impact my college experience. From my time in Freshman Council, not only did I get to help students by improving the university, but it also inspired me to commit to my interest in government and politics. I went on to minor in political science and dedicate two more years to Student Government. These experiences were drastically different from my biomedical engineering courses and research, and I am so thankful for the multidisciplinary education that resulted from it. I enjoyed discovering how the knowledge and skills I gained from the two disciplines could complement each other and was inspired to broaden my potential career aspirations.

Post-graduate plans:
Taylor will move to Washington DC to work at MCRA, a medical device advisory firm and clinical research organization, in the role of a junior associate consulting in reimbursement and market access.

Career goals/professional aspirations:
I aim to build a career in the pharmaceuticals and biotechnology industry.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
